CAST 2009 Conference in Galevston, Texas November 5th through the 7th.

First Time Attendees are encouraged to go to a special First Timers Coffee event, sponsored by Sargent-Welch, OHAUS, the Dana Center, and Science Kit, on Thursday from 7-8 AM in Moody Gardens Salon D. At the event, you will receive invaluable information about how to make the most of your time in Galveston.

SPEAKERS - There are 3 Featured Speakers this year: Mary Manheim, a forensic anthropologist; Mike Everhart, a paleontologist; and Bernard Harris, an astronaut. Speaker presentations take place on Thursday and Friday and are available to all conference participants at no additional cost. Brief speaker bios and presentation times are available on the speaker page on the CAST website.

STRANDS - The printed conference program will identify different groups of programs as being affiliated with a particular topic or strand. These strand programs are open to all, but are labeled with Strand Name Presents: to help you identify their connection to other programs within the same theme. Strands may include workshops, short courses, field trips, and luncheons.

The theme of this year’s Conference is “Making Connections.” Workshops and collegial networking opportunities will help teachers of science make connections with teachers from all levels of science teaching and all types of educational institutions, among the sciences and between science and math and technology, with corporations and non-profit institutions involved with science education, and with representatives of organizations like the New York State Education Department, the National Science Teachers Association, and other professional teacher associations within and from outside of New York State.

Our featured and invited speakers this year are exceptional people from the world of science. They include Dr. Spencer Wells, a renowned geneticist and anthropologist, and an Explorer-in-Residence at the National Geographic Society. Dr. Wells leads The Genographic Project, and has produced several fascinating and educational National Geographic program videos. Jerome Ringo in 2005 became the Chairperson of the Board of the National Wildlife Federation as well as the first African American to lead a major conservation organization. He is currently President of the Apollo Alliance, a coalition of labor, environmental, business, and civil rights leaders organized to free the United States of dependence on foreign oil. Invited speakers for the 2009 Conference include University at Albany Geologist Dr. John Delano, Princeton University Associate Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Dr. Laura Landweber and University of Rochester Astronomer Dr. Adam Frank.

Dynalab Corp. under new company ownership

On September 30, 2009 Martin Davies, President & CEO, and Kathleen DeWitt, Executive VP, completed the purchase of Dynalab Corp from Nova Capital Management of the United Kingdom. The new Principals have every expectation of remaining on site in the Rochester area at 350 Commerce Drive.

Dynalab Corp is a 50 plus year old company in the plastic laboratory supply business with on site plastic fabrication capabilities that sells throughout North America. The business model includes value added packaging, product and fabrication services while supplying the Research, Industrial, Environmental and Educational markets affiliated with Life Science and Chemistry. This exciting development will preserve 35 Rochester area jobs!
